What the Service Covers

More Than Just Unblocking a Drain

Gutters do one job: collect water off the roof and route it safely to the drain. When any part of that system fails — a cracked joint, a loose bracket, a crushed downpipe — water ends up where it should never be. On the fascia, down the wall, pooling at the foundation.

Our gutter repair service covers the full run from the roofline to the ground. That means inspecting every bracket, joint, outlet and downpipe; clearing any blockages that are causing standing water; resealing or replacing leaking joints; re-fixing drooping or detached sections; and repairing or replacing damaged downpipes and connectors.

We work with the most common gutter profiles found on Limerick homes — half-round, square-line and ogee uPVC guttering — as well as cast iron on older or period properties. Where a full section is beyond repair, we replace it to match what is already there. This service sits alongside our broader roof repairs in Limerick work, so if we spot a related issue at the roofline — a loose flashing, a cracked fascia board — we will flag it and can deal with it in the same visit.

Common Problems We Fix

What''s Actually Wrong With Your Gutters

Most gutter faults have straightforward causes. Here is what we typically find on Limerick homes, how we diagnose each one, and how we fix it.

Leaking Joints

The seal between two gutter sections dries out, cracks or was never seated correctly. Water drips at the overlap — often directly onto the fascia below. We clean the joint faces, apply fresh gutter sealant rated for UV and frost exposure, and clamp or clip the joint back together. On older push-fit uPVC systems where the rubber seal has perished, we replace the union piece entirely.

Sagging or Pulling Away from the Fascia

Bracket screws corrode in the fascia, or the fascia timber itself softens with damp, and the gutter drops or tilts. Standing water then ponds at the low point and the weight accelerates the problem. We replace failed brackets with stainless fixings and, where the fascia has gone soft, anchor into the rafter feet behind it for a solid fix.

Blocked Downpipes

Leaves, moss and grit compact inside the downpipe, usually at an offset bend. The gutter backs up, overflows at the fascia line, and you may only notice during heavy rain when the gutter runs like a waterfall over the side. We rod or flush the blockage clear, inspect the pipe run from top to bottom and fit a leaf guard at the outlet where it will help.

Incorrect Fall (Pooling Water)

Gutters need a slight slope — roughly 1:500 — toward the outlet. If the brackets were fitted level, or if one has dropped over the years, water sits in the gutter, breeds moss and accelerates joint failure. We re-pitch the affected run by adjusting bracket heights, clear any standing debris and confirm the fall with a level before finishing.

Cracked or Split Gutter Sections

Impact damage — a falling branch, a roofer stepping on it or storm debris — can crack a section. uPVC also becomes brittle in prolonged cold, which is worth noting after a hard Limerick winter. A short crack can sometimes be repaired with specialist gutter repair tape and sealant as a cost-effective fix; a badly split section is replaced like-for-like.

Overflowing Gutters

If a gutter overflows only in very heavy rain but is otherwise clear and well-sloped, the gutter cross-section may be undersized for the roof area it drains. This is common on extensions added to older Limerick semis where the original 75mm downpipe now handles twice the roof area it was sized for. In these cases we upgrade the outlet or downpipe size to match the actual catchment.

How We Work

The Gutter Repair Process, Step by Step

Straightforward work done carefully. Here is what happens from your first call to the clean-up.

Free Inspection & Quote

We arrive with a ladder and inspect the full gutter run — inside and out, every joint and bracket, the downpipe from outlet to drain. We photograph any faults we find and walk you through what needs doing and why. You get a written quote before we lift a tool.

Clearing Debris & Blockages

Before any repair work begins, we clear the gutter channel of leaves, moss and compacted debris. Blocked outlets and downpipes are rodded or flushed. There is no point resealing a joint that will be under the weight of a full trough of stagnant water.

Joint Resealing or Replacement

Leaking joints are opened, cleaned back with a wire brush and solvent, and resealed with a flexible, UV-stable gutter sealant. Where the union clip itself is cracked or where a rubber seal has perished, we replace the union piece entirely with a matching profile piece.

Bracket Re-fixing & Re-pitching

Failed or corroded brackets are replaced with new stainless steel brackets at the correct spacings (no more than 1 metre apart, closer at corners and outlets). We set the fall on a string line before fixing so the repaired run drains consistently to the outlet.

Downpipe & Connector Repairs

Cracked, split or disconnected downpipe sections are replaced like-for-like. Pipe clips are checked and replaced where loose. The bottom outlet and shoe are checked to confirm they direct water cleanly to the drain or soakaway.

Flow Test & Clean-Up

We run water through the system to confirm the fall is correct, all joints are holding and nothing overflows. All off-cuts, old sealant and debris are bagged and taken away. We check the ground area below the work and leave it as we found it.

Pricing & Cost Factors

What Affects the Price of Gutter Repairs in Limerick

We do not publish fixed prices because every job is different — a single leaking joint costs far less to fix than re-pitching an entire rear elevation and replacing six brackets. Here are the genuine factors that move the price up or down. Every quote is written, itemised and free.

Length of Gutter Run

The more linear metres of gutter we need to inspect, clear and repair, the longer the job takes. A terraced house with a short front run is a different scope to a detached bungalow with guttering on all four elevations.

Number of Faults Found

One failing joint is a quick reseal. A run with five cracked union pieces, a sagging mid-section and two blocked downpipes requires more time and materials. Our inspection tells you exactly how many faults exist before you commit to anything.

Access Difficulty

Most Limerick semi-detached and detached homes are accessible with a standard extension ladder. Properties with a conservatory roof below the gutterline, or a rear elevation backing onto a narrow passage, may need more time to set up safe working access.

Repair vs. Replacement

Resealing a sound joint costs a fraction of replacing a full gutter section. We always repair where it is honest to do so and only recommend replacement where the material itself has failed and a repair would not last.

Gutter Material & Profile

Standard uPVC half-round and square-line sections are widely stocked and cost-effective. Ogee profile, cast iron or aluminium guttering on older Limerick properties costs more because the material itself is more expensive and, in the case of cast iron, heavier to handle.

What the Quote Includes

Every written quote from us covers: the inspection findings, all labour, all materials needed for the agreed repairs, debris removal and the flow test at the end. No hidden call-out charge, no extras added on the day without your agreement.

Questions & Answers

Gutter Repair FAQs for Limerick Homeowners

Real questions we get asked. Straight answers — no padding.

If the gutter sections themselves are structurally sound — no cracking, splitting or severe rust — repairs to joints, brackets and seals will usually sort the problem at far less cost than replacement. We assess the full run during the inspection and tell you straight which sections can be repaired and which, if any, need replacing. Most Limerick homes with uPVC guttering only need one or two joints resealed or a handful of brackets re-fixed.
The most common cause is bracket failure. Gutter brackets are screwed into the fascia board; over time the screws corrode or the fascia itself rots, losing its grip. Heavy debris build-up adds weight and accelerates the pull. In some older Limerick properties the original brackets were undersized for the gutter profile. We replace the brackets and, where the fascia is soft, use longer stainless fixings into the rafter feet behind it.
Twice a year is the standard recommendation — once in late autumn after the leaves have fallen, and once in spring to clear anything that built up over winter. Limerick properties near mature trees, particularly in areas like Castletroy and Corbally, can need clearing more frequently because decomposing leaves accelerate joint sealant failure and encourage moss growth.
Yes, and it is one of the most underestimated causes of internal damp in Irish homes. A joint that drips water down the cavity or onto the wall below the DPC can saturate the masonry over months without any obvious external sign. If you have persistent damp patches on an external wall with no obvious roof cause, the gutters directly above are worth checking first — it is a quick and inexpensive fix compared to damp-proofing works.
Always. We inspect the gutters from a ladder, note every fault, and give you a clear written quote that breaks down what needs doing and why. There are no surprise charges on the day. If we spot additional issues once work begins — something only visible once a section is removed — we tell you before proceeding.
